Home - Extras - Rants - I listen to foreign music, so what?

"Why do you listen to non-english songs?"
"Do you even understand what this song is saying?"
".. You're not Korean/Japanese but you listen to Korean/Japanese music.. "

I don't understand what's so wrong about listening to foreign music and not being able to understand the lyrics. I have friends who listen to foreign music too and they don't understand what the artist is singing about either but yet they still like it. When people ask me how do I know what they're singing about, I tell them that there are translations on the internet everywhere... although sometims lyrics can be innocrrect. I happen to like music that sounds good. What attracts me is the beat, lyrics, the flow, and how it makes me feel regardless of what it's talking about. Most Korean and Japanese songs have to do with love and feelings.

Half of the songs on my ipod are asian songs, so when people who I know don't listen to asian music ask me for my ipod, I say no. Why? Because I do feel a little offended when people say stuff like "... Do you even understand what they're saying?" and then I would have to explain to them why I listen to foreign music. It's annoying. It's annoying because there are people would like to have debates and try to win to make people feel stupid like we don't know what we're saying or even why we listen to it. We, as in the people who are in love with Korean/Japanese/Taiwanese music like me.
